Hi All,

A short tim ago my timing chain snaped on my 300TE(103)
I have taken the head off and found that 2 valves were damaged which I have replaced.
I am now left with 2 problems-:

1 does anyone know what the Torque setting is to tighten down the head?

2 does anyone know how to set up the timing marks for TDC?

Many Thanks

torque settings:

stage 1 - 70nm (52lbf ft)
stage 2 - tighten through a further 90 deg
stage 3 - tighten through a further 90 deg

timing settings:

set no.1 cylinder at TDC. to to this, remove distributor cap and note position of lead to no.1 cylinder. turn crankshaft (use a socket) until the O/T (TDC) mark on the crank pulley aligns with the edge of the crank position sensor on the tmining chain cover. the engine is at TDC on the compression stroke when the above is true and the rotor arm is pointed to no.1 cylinder (sometimes there is a notch in the distributor body to aid this, sometimes not).

remove cam sprocket. turn camshaft until the TDC pin or hole (depending on engine type) in the flange at the front of the camshaft is aligned with the raised rib on the front camshaft bearing cap. refit sprocket.

job done.
