As MB make there own boxes it has to be an MB torque converter

Gulp, i maybe in for a bit of expense then.
I have read various threads regarding gearbox replacement and that you should replace the TC as well but what if i just replaced the TC should i be looking to do anything to the gearbox? the car has done 130,000 miles now and the GB does not bring up any fault codes and drives well though i have,nt really anything to gauge this by.
What do you think?

What makes you think the TC is faulty?

Hi,
Since I have had the car (15 months & 14,000 miles) when starting from cold it will idle at approx 12-1300rpm, while it is idling at this speed if I was to put it in gear it will stall, if I allow the idle to go to 700-800 which it does after approx 30seconds to a minute it will go into gear fine.
Now the engine I believe has a slight air leak as it hunts slightly very occasionally and I have always believed this to be the cause of the stalling.
But when it was having its "A" service recently at MB i had to explain this to them as they had the vehicle overnight and they would be starting it from cold.
When I picked it up they offered a diagnosis to the problem saying it could possibly be the TC starting to sieze up. I dismissed this (still believing it to be the hunting fault causing it) but Cole popped in for a cuppa on Saturday, and i demonstrated the fault (as the car had not been started that day) and he said that it could possibly be a TC issue. Upto this point i had really dismissed the previous diagnosis, but because Cole mentioned it too and I trust Coles ability & knowledge in such matters I thought i would try to expand my knowledge of a TC and see what my options are if and when the TC is declared U/S.
Is there a definitive way of checking a TC?

The only test that I know Andy is the stall test, and that checks the output torque.

You can do it, and could it clear anything I do not know.

But when warm,,put the car in D with your foot on the brake, and then rev the car up,,it should not go over 2k and do not do this for more than 5-10 sec, as it overheats the box.

This could possibly solve a raised clutch face issue thats causing it to stall, if that is the problem
