I have had my facelift 1999 SL 320 for three weeks now and I am slowly finding out that there are bits missing. Not thankfully bodywork or engine parts (I hope) but tools from the tool kit, warning triangle, cabin bits and bobs etc (thanks to the guys in the spares dept at Kettering MB for their patience) but I have found whilst looking on ebay and this forum for example more numbers coming up which relate to a certain model, like (can't remember off the top of my head) R230 or W124!!??.
So what on earth is mine, or where do I find it!
Can someone please enlighten me.
Cheers.

Thanks for the response everyone (and the link)

Malcolm you asked for it mate!

At the moment I am after purely cosmetic and hidden parts, which are:

Screwdriver and spanners req'd for tool roll (I think that'll complete the kit as I have the hood wrench, wheel brace, fuse grabber, jack)
Correct warning triangle (MB triangle in car at moment - but incorrect fit)
Hardtop (panoramic) is missing a "cap" of which there should be two (drivers side missing) it is located where the end of the blind front runner sits when fully closed above driver. (Orion Grey)
One clip to hold front passenger well netting in shape. (Orion Grey)
I am missing one drivers side plastic cap which is glued to the underside of the black metal plate which opens and closes to reveal or hide the main hinge mech for the hood (sits just behind the shoulder if you're sitting in the car) I have taken the one I have off the car and it has the number 129 693 01 16 >PA< (Part no?) Above this number is Mercedes Benz PuC.
I would also like to get some new mats in dark grey / black (with MB alloy badge) especially for the front as the mats I have aren't MB and slip about as they do not have the press studs under them. Rears are OK.
And finally! I have seen a company on ebay who supply MB front car seat covers - BUT these look to me to be the actual leather covers which are on the cars and not tacky car seat covers?? is this correct ie if I went to my local MB dealer is this what they would supply me as opposed to new seats or recovered in the conventional way!

Thats it for now:rolleyes:

I will take a photo of the tool kit, later in the day

Net clips, I will also take picture as I thought that I was missing one.

The plastic cap in hardtop only from MB

The plastic panel under the black lid is all one part. from a breaker or Ebay they have been on there.

Plenty of new mats on Ebay, here and US ( original)

Re the seats, if its only the side of the Back that has gone, it can be re done, but these are a big problem in that they are finished in Nappa leather, and that is very different to anything that can be purchased here. Can you take a photo ?

Cheers Malcolm,
The seats aren't top of my list - they're discoloured on the seats and backs, it looks like a previous owner has tried to paint them with vinyl paint, or possibly some sort of chemical as there are run marks, but despite using soapy water through to Glyptone and Auto Glym cleaners I cant get the marks off, I will give nail varnish remover a try this weekend before feeding the leather.
As for the seat sides (seatbelt housing) there are minor nicks which I can repair for now with dabs of glue.
Have you or anyone tried leather dye / paint? I'm not too sure as it's a light colour (Orion Grey)
I forgot to mention the door cards, or more precisely the panel that sits within that has the door pull handle and pocket with lid (both sides) The leather seems VERY thin and is damaged on both sides. I was quoted £168 + VAT each from MB, so I may find a decent trimmer/finisher, or possibly try myself as I've found some good hides on ebay. (I did something like this on my TVR quite successfully)
Look forward to your photo of the full tool kit plus any comments.

Cheers,

Re the door cards and small panel, I think that you will find that they are covered in a very thin vynal, its a two way stretch version, without any backing,You cant use the normal one as itn is a one way stretch, and its too thick. only available to special order, its stretched and glued, one cut or nick and it opens up. It would seem that the seats would be better off with a retrim, they are easy to take apart, and the covers just slide off.

I tried the water-based Scuffmaster from Gliptone - funnily enough on an Orion Grey E320 owned by a friend. Dye didn't come anywhere near to a match (dried far too light) and the supplied toner just made it browner rather than darker.

"Peter" from Gliptone has a Basil Fawlty line in customer service - he snappily insisted the car could not be Orion Grey or his dye would match!

Both the VIN plate and the dealer lookup disagreed with him....the seats also look identical to mine and that is also Orion Grey - fortunately mine aren't worn.

On the plus side, the cleaner and feed combo from Gliptone are excellent.

I am waiting on some spirit based dye from Leatherique now.

Steve.
Let me know how you get on with the spirit based dye.
Just a tip that I got when on Pistonheads during my TVR ownership is to use saddle soap on your leather seats. I never tried it but I just might visit my local saddlers/stables and give it a try!
Cheers.

Sadle soap is by far the best leather conditioner for leather, its a natural product. In the Rolls Royce Car club we all used it for our pre war tourer's. I use it on my SL.
Leather creases always in the same place, put some sadle soap on a few times, and the creases will go as the whole skin becomes flexible again, re laquare and that's it.

Steve,
I have just completely brought my seats back from looking like they had been painted with a dye (loads of run marks and dark/light patches) to looking absolutely clean and mark free saving me a shed load of money.
I used on the seats (Orion Grey) nail varnish remover! a bit harsh I know but WOW! it just took all the dye (if that's what it was) and dirt completely away. It has taken three bottles, but nail varnish remover is dirt cheap. I then used baby wipes to take off the resedue and remaining dirt, and then used neatsfoot (Saddlesoap) which cost £4.50 for a good sized can. I am sooo happy that I've cleaned the seats as I had visions of getting them recovered.
Tomorrow I will do the door cards and roll bar. ONE HAPPY CHAPPY!

I have not heard of neatsfoot oil for years, that was always the best,Neats are hard things to catch and get the oil out of, friend of mine used to breed them    .

Are you sure that the roll bar is leather, I think that they are plastic covered so take care with accetone.

Easy way to tell is look for stitching - plastic isn't stitched!

Disappointing to compare the leather interior on the W124 to the S211 - the old car has leather on the armrest, the front edge of the seats, the whole headrest etc whereas the new car does not.

I do still prefer the all-4-windows-down 6,000revs straight 6 howl - forces you to grin..
