hi All

Have a 'few' stone chips on my bonnet - very annoying to me everytime I clean the car and its nice and shiney then I notice them!

Any1 recommend how to clean these up or ways to with the correct paint and make it look good not a bodge job!

thanks

You need to be patient with touch-ups. Apply lots of layers very thinly with a fine brush (not the crappy one that comes attached to the lid of touch up sticks), until it stands pround of the chip area and the surrounding OK paintwork. Leave to harden for a few weeks and then gently T-Cut/polish back to blend in. Never invisible but this way is the best IMO to get best results

I just did about 50 of the darn things on my E bonnet - used a touch up kit and the sharp end of a cocktail stick in place of the pointless brush.

Not invisible close up but not standing out white any more either...the cocktail stick allows the paint to go IN the chip and not AROUND it.

Yes cocktail stick is the best way but apply only the smallest amount of paint at a time and let it dry properly, the paint will shrink into the chip and allow another layer, keep doing this until the levels are about the same and then use a polish compound that can work the area affected to blend the surface together.
Then use another polish to bring the shine back. Did this on my CL and the chips are hardly noticable.

When doing this on metalics the colour will look to dark, very much so with the lighter colours, what we do in the trade is to apply the last coat and after 20 - 30sec smudge it with your finger, this will bring out the metalic effect, leave it to dry for 12 nours min at 20c and then very lightly T cut off and you will not see it.'

This has a double effect, paint shrinks as it dries, this means that it will also pull back from the edge, the smudging it helps

I would put up pics, but you cant see the filled hole.

Do not try and use the clear coet as it will make the repair too dark and you cant feather it with T cut
