Tow Bar

Hello to all, I have only just found this forum and maybe someone can help. I have a 87 300TE which had a factory towbar fitted. The only problem is that the detachable tow hook has gone missing, I have searched high and low for one but to no avail. Alan Day can supply one but at a price I will not put on the screen as not to scare anyone..ha,ha.   It would be a shame to put a witter tow bar on there.  Many thanks and by the way, great web-site.

Hi Tom

You know where your coming from. A replacment ball is mega money. Its infuriating that somewhere that ball is just sitting in someones garage.

I can't help, but good luck in your search. The merc bars are second to none, but no good without the tow ball.

Hi Tom, I know  how you feel as I have the same problem on my 500 sec, tow bar - no ball!! Maybe someone should set up a site just for these missing tow balls (there out there someware). Best of luck in your quest. If I find two, I will drop you a line.

Surely the price of a detachable ball must be less than the price of a new complete system??

The price of tow ball only is £340 pounds, there are none in UK so will have to come from Germany. Price of Witter towbar complete is £120. At least Dick turpin wore a mask!!!! ha,ha... Thanks for the help guys.

I don't care what quality the profess for these tow bars, £340 is daylight robbery.

It's a clever bit of business really. Invent something that people want, I.E. detachable tow bar, then charge the earth for the bit that is obviously going to be mislaid, clever, very clever............only wish i'd thought of it first!!

i have a tow bar on my 230e not sure if its factory or not, how do you tell?

I was planning on removing it anyway.
