I am considering getting a B class and with the idea of using it occasionally for towing. It would tow a car trailer with racing car and spares, total weight would I guess be around 1000kg so is within the specified limits. Is the factory set up ok for this weight? I guess so if they specify it. I was just wondering if any one had comments good or bad about this. Obviously the most powerful one would be best (B200 cdi) but it will primarily be for the missus daily driver and she prefers petrol as it is a lot smoother. The common vibration through the throttle is really horrible isn't? Is it on all diesels? Would the B200 petrol fit the bill?
I would be interested in any comments. Does anyone know of any links to info about towing with this car?
Cheers.
Keith.

No throttle vibration on the B200cdi I had or on my A class diesels. Very smooth.

Can't see why there should be any problems towing the weight you specify. Sales literature gives the recommended towing weights and maybe tech details on the MB website will too.

The 200cdi has loads of power even at low revs (from 1250 upwards) and does 0-62 in sub 10 seconds. Should be good for towing in manual or in the CVT gearbox version (which I have).

The 200 petrol should be man enough too.

Thanks for that. Yes hopefully will be ok then. Shame the optional tow bar is so damn expensive. Why is this? Special to Merc I guess.

I hope to test drive another diesel this week. Maybe it is just the odd one that has this vibration but the one I test drove (07 plate) was quite bad I thought. My foot was still buzzing after I got home about 1/2 an hour later.

Yes 1000 kg is about, maybe nearer 1100 or 1200. Trailer unladen is 500kg, Car is 500kg, plus a bit for spares (wet tyres etc). Limits for b class is 1500/1300 Petrol/Diesel. Don't know why the diesel is less, I would have thought it would be the other way round
