Just announced on the news the Toyota is on the point of over taking genral motors as the worlds largest car manufacturer.

Wakey Wakey MB toyota knows how to treat their customers, and do not argue over every damm thing that goes wrong, very much so when it is not the customers fault, like water pouring in, valve seats that crack, gearboxes that fill with antifreeze, and much more.

It is not all roses. I wish I'd kept the posting someone did on the huge number of Toyota recalls. In its absence, this is worth a look: -

Toyota to tackle quality control

Toyota may have to delay the roll-out of some new models while it resolves quality control issues that have seen more than a million cars recalled.
President Katsuaki Watanabe said the firm was looking at all aspects of car development, from manufacturing and design to dealing with customer gripes.
A report in the Wall Street Journal said the changes could delay some new models by up to six months.
Toyota has recalled some 1.5 million cars in Japan and the US this year.
On Friday, authorities in China announced that Toyota would recall 20,000 cars due to a faulty rubber seal used to fix the windscreen.
Three of the company's executives are being investigated by Japanese prosecutors over claims they delayed a car recall that may have prevented a subsequent road accident that injured a couple and three young children.
Car manufacturers are increasingly trying to cut costs by using the same components across a range of models, but this has led to a rise in the number of recalls.
Toyota has built up a reputation for reliability in many world markets, a key contributor to its success as it looks to overtake General Motors as the world's biggest carmaker

The fact that they have a large number of recall does not imply the cars are no good. To me this shows that they are being honest and care about customer service. They dont hide things in the cupboard like the Mercedes Instrument cluster problem for which thousands of people still havent be paid.

My ex had a Jazz and it was a superb vehicle. Had a problem with the carpet which the dealer changed under warranty with no fuss whatsoever. Honda in my opinion lead the way in quality and customer service.

I was thinking on the same lines, at least they do the re calls and other work, they also make it very clear, that you can have your car serviced where you like,as long as it is done by the book.

Might be able to give u some first-hand feed-back at some point. Am in process of buying a landcruiser, for some off-road action. It won't be a new one, so i'll find out if they're as reliable and indestructable as many people say!

Excellent choice Nick, both Land Cruiser and Prado are incredibly strong off road vehicles, be interested in how you find it;)

Yes Toyotas do have a good rep.

I have 3 cars currently on my shortlist for when the Mrs decides she wants to change my 202 C class

Current Lexus IS
Current Lexus RX400h
Current B Class

Not necessarily in that order though, will see how things go.

(meant 400h not 300)

Lexus, ive done a lot of work on these cars and believe me the LS 400, albeit a little old now was their vanguard. The newer LS430 compares reasonably well. They are quiet (after you start the engine, you have to look at the rev counter to be sure the engine is running). They do have an oil problem, that is to say, if you dont change it on a regular basis then engine damage can occur. Also the LS 400 uses shims under the cam followers and are very complex to size without the correct guidance or information. But overall its a terrific car, well worth the money. But if you buy second hand, be careful the service history, when they are sericed well, they will go forever.;)

Hi
Could you enlighten me on what that instrument cluster problem was please?

I'm trying to determine whether the clicking noise behind my dash is a common problem, which MB have quoted something like £1,700 to fix. If it's a recall problem, which should be fixed by MB, I'll try pursue this avenue!

Thanks
Pratik

My wife has had a Toyota Yaris for over 5 years--an excellent vehicle.Been to Spain and back without a murmur and averaged 50mpg.
There have been 2 recalls--the last just a few months ago-yes,after 5 years!
On both occasions the work was done free of charge,a letter of apology received and a bottle of champagne given to compensate for the inconvenience.
By comparison Mercedes customer care is not even in the same galaxy!

Isn't that saying they have identified problems and are doing something about them?

I don't see how being the 'largest' matters that much? British Leyland use to be large. It's all about how much profit you can squeeze from manufacturing the cars and selling the feckers. BTW. That's Toyota too. They make far more profit, per car, than any other manufacturer in the known universe. :p

I still wouldn't buy one. Yawn....

I've always liked Toyota, they do built some good cars, my supra hasn't given me any trouble that i can't do and done 176000 miles. If anything goes wrong they are always good for still getting parts for the MK3 at my Toyota Garage.

I am surprised Ford haven't taken GM over, well, they have taken every other blinking car company !
