Tracing previous owner

Hi all. I hope everyone is staying safe.

Just wanted to ask a question before breaking any forum rules....

I would like to know if any member knows the history of my SL which I bought in 2018. I am happy to post the original registration number in case anyone knows who owned it previously, or indeed owned it themselves, but I wasn't sure if this is allowed?

Obviously I would be happy with DM with any info rather than posts in public if any info was available.

DVLA no longer add previous owner to V5 so that is a dead end.

When I bought my car I expressed an interest in previous owners. No one on the forum thought I would get any response. I was particularly interested in why Mercedes kept my car for the first 10 years. I've never found out. It has an exemplary service history.

Because you bought your car at 3 yrs old, the owner probably never joined a forum. People buy new cars every two or three years to avoid any maintenance issues. They get all the support they need from their dealer.

Yes please.

I intend to keep the car forever so would like to build up the history.

My local dealer was able to print the specification sheet (or whatever that is called) and I have the digital service history.

If you contact Greenoaks they should be able to print off the service invoices and send them to you - I find the printout of the DSR incomplete and ilegible as the print is too small. They may get antsy about owners details being on the service invoices (MB Brentford did when I got them for my S203, they photocopied them and cut off the owners details before posting them to me) but then again they may not, when I bought the S204 from MB Ashford the salesman simply printed them off and gave them to me!

It used to be but not any more .... don't know when they stopped including previous owner's details on the V5

Not any more, V5 previous owner is blank.

It has been known however to ask Mercedes for a parts quotation for your newly acquired car and the quote has the previous owners name and address on... oops

That's what MB Brentford quoted when I asked for service invoice print-outs - and I told them I had the previous owners name, address etc not only from the V5 but also from the one service invoice I'd been given when I bought the car. made SFA of difference to the muppets at MB Brentford, but reading on here and t'other side they don't have a great reputation! I had to push hard to get them to send me copies with the owners details cut off!

Last car I bought still waiting for DVLA to issue a V5.

I have traced and chatted too 2 previous owners of my 55, a good bit of detective work on my half, but it helped when I first found the installed tracker's paper work in the car, which was a starting point. So I now know the first and who bought it off him, the second and who he sold it too, the third and where he had it serviced, the forth and who bought it off him and how much the prices were over the years and the fifth who was the only dealer to have the car in their name and on the V5c and the sixth owner which I know extremely well
However one of the first and second services done at MB main dealers have categorically denied even having the car in even though their stamp is in the service book and signed name of the technician

I contacted the supplying MB dealer for my SL asking if they could provide a copy of the sales invoice from 2004, they denied they sold the vehicle even though they are in the service book having done the predelivery inspection. My guess is they couldn't be bothered to look.

Weird, even the dealer who traded it had no recollection of the car.......I guess that trade was a dodgey deal
