Why do you want to know ??????????

What is the problem you are trying to solve ????????

I ask because the way you have spelt it, is obvious you do not know what it means.

So tell us what the problem is on the vehicle.

steering pulling to to the left even after two full wheel alignment checks at £78 each, then one set of front tyres atnearly £200.It was the recommended that i swap over the front tyres which seemed to help a bit. Then a small garage set the wheels with a simple steel bar that had adjustment on it and set the two front wheels straight with no toe in and no toe out, which has improved it greatly. But said if i can find the correct toe measurements he will try again to put it right .would be very greatfull for any advice .

You cant set the toe in these days with an iron bar, any tyre firm with optical equipment only charge around £40 if that. They will also have the data tables for your car.

I think it should be set at parrallel (easier to write than to spell)

My local garage charges £10.00 for tracking

Camber & Caster may be substantially more though (sounds like what you may need checking?)

The front suspension has rubber bushes which flex when the car is moving, but do not when the car is stationary.

If your suspension bushes are worn (very common) it could throw the tracking out when the car is being driven, BUT appear OK when the car is stationary.

You need to have the suspension checked first, and worn bushes replaced, before the geometry is set up again.

Go to a Merc specialist that understands your vehicle for the suspension check.

Wise words, it would avoid the Mummy, Mummy syndrome of" why am I running round in circles"

Sadly its the old story, who do you trust to do a good job, who isnt going to stitch you up. the car trade is far from pleasent. Sadly these tyre guys often know next to nothing and have no training what so ever. I have one near me who told me the the feathering on the tyres was caused by the power steering.

Going in with differing measurements is one thing, after all the problem hasn't been identified yet. But i'd like to think that it came back to you with it's standard set up EVERY time. Obviously the operator isn't up to the job.

Hi Ambiente, Only 100% way to be sure about tracking is to do it yourself, not easy if you don't do your own servicing. I've used a Gunson Trackrite gauge for the last 25 years with excellent results, best £60 I've ever spent and never had uneven wear. As to your original point with this method you don't need to know the toe in or toe out. It's a dynamic measurement with each wheel moving over the gauge. You adjust for straight ahead wheel movement.

When I tried to get the tracking done on my c230k all the high street companies said they couldn't do it, even showed me documentation that said why. Apparently they have to be loaded to simulate the driver !!!! so ended up taking it to the dealer.

Hi,
I,ve a W202 C230K Sport manual 97 "P" reg (pre face-lift) i,ve had the tracking done 4-5 times whilst i,ve owned it and never been told that.
Can you remember why?
I will say that when i first noticed the tracking being out(one wheel seemed to skip sideways when it was on lock as if the wheel was on a greater lock)
Took it to Quick Fit they laser lined it, adjusted it and was no better they tried 2-3 times with different settings but no better so they refunded my money.
I had the tracking done on a computer 4-wheel alignment (computer printout of all suspension angles camber castor etc. Perfect afterwards over 4 years i have had tracking done this way ever since 100% perfect evrytime.
Would really interested in why they could,nt do it
Andy.
