James,

I have recently tried a special coating for the windscreen called Rain x or Rain off, something like that anyway which I got from Halfords.

I found it worked really well and helped the wipers work much more efficiently.

Modern brake pads tend to be dustier than the asbestos type of old. Dirtier wheels but less chance of mechanics contracting some horrible disease.

There is a product commonly available at motor factors, probably Halfords as well that you spray onto the wheel that provides a protective coating and stops the dust sticking to the wheel.

Reasonably effective considering I'm not the most fanatical car washer in the world.

Some aftermarket pads claim to leave less dust but I've always been a stickler for genuine braking components.

You really need to clean the windscreen with a solvent such as methylated spirits. Try to avoid getting too much wash and wax on the glass. Rain-x is very good but must be applied to the glass after it has been thoroughly cleaned with solvent.

Some brands of wipers have a coating of graphite or silicone, this is great at first but soon makes the screen smeary and juddery.

Try using normal car wax on your wheels. My advice would be to avoid using the alloy wheel cleaners, especially the ones that smell of acid, they can really damage your wheels and your nuts. :D
