I own a 1985 300D Turbo and I had trouble with the tranny today, most likely because it was the first real warm day I have driven it. The tranny did not want to shift out of 2nd unless I revved it pretty high and let off the the pedal and gently applied. If I pressed very far it would downshift again regardless of the Rpms. I was unable to shift to 4th at all. In the evening when cool it gave me no trouble.

I should say that the motor and tranny were taken from an 81-82 model and it does slip slightly from 3rd to 4th, but never refused to shift. Is the tranny trashed or is it something simple like a fluid/filter change or a sensor?

Thanks.

A change of fluid and a new screen filter in the transmission is the cheapest option. This will more than likely solve your problems. good luck. 8)

still trouble

I changed the fluid/filter and my tranny still has trouble. It is not apparent when at WOT but when light throttle is applied, it slips and the RPMs jump at 2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th shift about 70 percent of the time. I've tried adjusting the cable running to the throttle rods etc above the valve cover. I have good vaccuum pressure from the pump but am unsure how to diagnose how It connects to the tranny. I see that it runs from the ingection pump to a modual on the driver side of the compartment, but I don't know what I should be looking for. I've talked to mechanics, not specializing in Mercs, and they are pretty sure its a pressure control issue not internal. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. There was no metal in the pan when I changed the fluid.
