Hi

I have just purcahsed a one previous owner July 2005 reg E220 CDi A/G Estate - and I am V happy with it. This has a full MB service history. Now reading the MB website it would appear that ...

(1) The car has a 3 yr warranty with about 9 months to go
(2) Roadside assitance for 30 years (!)

Can someone confirm if both of these are true and if I need to do something to let MB know I am the new owner so should be entitled to the remainder of the warranty. Do MB really offer pan european roadside assistance for 30 years?!!

cheers

TPT

MB warranties cover the car, not the owner so no, you don't have to do anything, you're covered.
The 30 year cover is called Mobilio and requires FMBSH after year 2. It includes a 30 year anti corrosion warranty too!

Thanks for the answer JBERKS

Does anyone have a view on getting a MB extended warranty when this one runs out in 8 months time?

Is it worth it?

You may want to check out MB 'Service Cover Plus' (search on this forum) and get your local dealer to give you a quote. The jury's still out on whether it really covers everything except accidents, tyres and glass but I've been re-assured by my cover plus contract paperwork that it does.
You're just approaching the right time to take it out in say 5 or 6 months time and you should then get your 1st MOT and any consequential repairs done under the deal. Plus you get the service stamp and mobilife cover as jberks says.
I think they offer 30 years because it sounds good and because most cars will have gone out of dealer servicing long before then.

let MB know you are new owner and any notifications of any recall's,update's etc will go to you instead of previous owner, MB extended warranty is now around £850 but covers nearly everything,i now have one with warranty direct for £312 a year, but only cover's up to £5000 and includes turbo and main dealer repairs.

I'd second David's comments. I have an extended warranty, bought through the dealer and whilst I'm happy with it, I was surprised to find that it wasn't an official MB warranty like I've had before, but an insurance backed one. It covers all the same stuff so it's ok, but don't buy any of the normal after market policies they advertise on the web, most are a rip off.

However, given the relative costs and benefits, if the prices haven't gone up wildly, service plus is better value. The only issue I have with service plus that they they ask for your annual mileage and fix it for the term of the policy. Fine for most, but for those of of us without static work locations, we have no idea how many miles we'll be doing next week, let alone next year.

I might suggest they bring one out that is mileage related - e.g. agree an estimated figure and adjust quarterly - like a gas budget plan.

They agree a mileage limit with you at the start of the Service Contract Plus and if you exceed that in a year there is a supplementary charge (in pence per mile) which is still reasonable. I haven't found the catch yet.
The other rather sneaky reason for me taking out S Contract Plus is that I'm then in a contract for 2 years - whilst you can cancel, the fact that it's signed up stops us going tyre kicking until the contract is up!! I'm a bit soft in the head when I get near new (or even new to me) cars!

before i purchased from warranty direct,i contacted the service dept at my local MB dealer where my e-class is serviced, to see if they had any experience of them. One of the service dept lads told me they had dealt with them a number of times without any problem, the only downside is, you pay for repairs done and then claim the money back.He also told me they had other customers opting for this type of warranty as at around £500 less the biggest rip-off was MB charging £850,still you make your own mind up,the proof of the pudding...................as they say

Yes but Service Contract Plus covers all servicing costs as well. Plus wiper blades, bulbs, anything wear and tear related.I pay £41 a month and never have to think about service costs or MOT related problems or even the cost of the MOT. Only do 7000 miles a year but with a B service imminent MBUK won't be so much in front on the deal. Plus I'm a very happy boy with a car thats as perfect as it can be and I'm not going to get smacked in the teeth with things like the Valeo problem etc.

w/direct covers wear and tear issues, and when mot'd at local mb dealer they give a free mot insurance which covers w/blades/bulbs etc up to £350,mb warranty also gives free mot insurance so service contract is'nt really offering it.at 7000 miles per year and serviced with proper spec oil you should go about 18-20 months between services,at £41 a month a service c is costing around £850.I've just had service D new fuel/air/trans/filters,b/fluid change,trans/oil change at local mb dealer £396.00-for e220cdi 53 reg,45000 miles, the service D was £100 cheaper than last time, nearly 15 months ago(9300 miles).Must admit tho' only just found out about VALEO problem, had car over 3 years no probs yet, touch wood!

w/direct covers wear and tear issues,
I'm extremely doubtful that Warranty Direct's "wear and tear" is the same as MB's "wear and tear". In fact it's not.

Well, that's staggeringly cheap. The trans fluid change is a £200 job on its own. Are you sure they really did all that work?

ServicePlus covers things like brake pads and disks, as well as routine servicing, plus any item that fails due to wear and tear. MB seem to say that it will cover anything at all that goes wrong with the car, so you get service, wear and tear, and "warranty" for only slightly more than service on its own would cost.

quote for trans/fluid/filter£120,service D/£250/b/fluid change£70,did deal with service manager for£400 all in,cost£396.done at main MB dealer, all receipts to show, maybe you should use same dealer!are you sure all work done on your own car is being done properly?funny how people are suspicious and and unbelieving when a good deal is negotiated.I was'nt aware warranty was included in service plus, and no, w/directs warranty is not as good as MB's (but wear and tear IS included)but at £500 cheaper and when your paying for everything yourself you tend to shop around, and after all i am a YORKSHIREMAN flat cap an' all.

...but...you paid how much (£350?) for the warranty, plus (a remarkably low) £400 for the service so that's £750 (plus £50 for an MOT at some point during the year?). MB ServicePlus would cover all that, and pay for new brake pads/disks if needed, which Warranty Direct certainly will not.
WD's "wear and tear" example is a water pump wearing out, but they note that they wouldn't cover the drive belt (MB would). They also reduce the payout according to the cars mileage. MB don't.
Have you ever tried to claim with WD - their website says their warranty labour rate is £40/hr outside London.
