transmission cooler

Hi I have just got my first mercedes a 2004 E 270 auto with 60k on the clock the car is super with no problems.
I am concerned about the dreaded valeo radiator problem, dont know if my car is affected.
Has any one fited a transmission cooler to remove this problem, MB wants £1000 to fit new radiator.(would not tell me type of radiator fitted but keen to fit a new one).
As i do a lot of short runs will the auto box be sluggish when starting from cold if it is not heated by the raditor.
Or can any one recommend a good aftermarket replacement raditor.

Cars up to the 30-09-03 are the ones affected and even then only the Valeo rad,,you could have a Behr instead.

Thanks for the reply, is there any easy way to find out production date? mine was registered in May 04.
I shall dig deeper to find out type of rad in my car.
