B180 06 plate, 63k miles.

Went on first long trip in years, 100 miles and back and driving around whilst away. Good speeds and drove beautifully.

Next day upon return, missus went out local and came back with it in limp mode and display showing transmission fault, visit workshop.

Did some research and saw all the info re ecu repair and rebuild etc.

Had it looked at by a local garage I use and whom I like. Old chap looks after my transit van and knows his onions.

After clearing a host of faults, he took it for a test drive and rescanned it.

'0717 Primary RPM sensor'

He then spoke with A1 Transmissions in Biggleswade who said could be one or more of three things...

Flywheel
Forward clutch
Valve body cracked

All of which are costly to the point of BER (beyond economical repair) I think.

Any chance this could just be the ECU?

Any input would be greatfully received.

Thanks,
D

Did I post incorrectly or is this just too tricky to answer?

If l were you I'd be going to see a Merc independent specialist with this. Don't know about that code but if it really is a sensor then l can't see it being any of the three items you listed. Just my opinion as I'm not very familiar with the B class.

Smart + others :)
Rpm sensor is a common fault, never seen any of the listed above as a fault.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Notifications were going to my spam folder so have only just seen them.

Its been fixed now.
I didn't trust the (phone) diagnosis from A1 transmissions. Everything I read was about TCU defective. So, it went off to another place and they had the module removed and repaired.

Its now back on the road.
Cost me a grand but I weighed things up and couldn't replace the vehicle for that amount. Hope it turns out to be worth the spend.

Cheers,
D
