I finally kinda fixed my W124 autobox. The problem was that it shifted too quickly, fourth gear engaged already when driving 20km/h.
I took the valve body out and cleaned it, in the process I realized the pin that’s controlled by the bowden cable wasn’t engaging with the valve box correctly, fixed that and it changes gears almost correctly.
I’ve obviously messed with the bowden cable a lot since I thought that was the problem (kinda was but not where I thought). It changed gears too late so I adjusted it so it should change them correctly. And so it does for the most part.
Today it was -25c outside, very cold. I let the car idle for 20 minutes and tried reversing out of my parking spot. The gear didn’t engage fully and I had to floor the gas for the car to move a little bit, rpms around 5k. Same with the d. When I got off, it started kind of working. It didn’t engage 4th gear no matter how much I tried, it just stayed in the 2nd or the 3rd. After a while it engaged 4th and the rest of my trip to work went well.
I tried playing with it on the way, it beautifully engaged down to 3rd gear when I floored it, and back to 4th when I let go a little. When I got to work I tried the reverse again. This time it worked. D worked too.
So when it’s cold, it just doesn’t work properly. What do I have to do? Did I do something wrong? Install something wrong? I suspect there is a small leak in the trans gasket since during last night it dropped a little oil out. 1-3rd gears seem to ”flare” a little if that’s the correct term.
