I wonder what the opinion would be on type of trickle charger for the consumer Battery in the Boot of the SL.? R230
Something to use ad-hoc when needed if it rains for two weeks solid.

Cost/benefit! If you have power available to the car (mains) any battery conditioner will do the job - CTEK are the "go-to" brand but are not cheap. Lidl do a conditioner for £15 which I have been using on my SLK whenever she is in her garage - which is often! Reports are that this conditioner will either crap out in 3 years or less or keep going - which mine has (fingers crossed!) for 5 years so far. Only downside is that unlike the CTEK, if you have a power cut, when the power comes back on it does not re-set, you have to do that manually, whereas the CTEK's will. Your choice!

I've been using two if these on my cars in storage.

Maypole 7423A Battery Charger... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009A83P1E?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Cheap, work well, auto-restart if power goes off..

If more current is required the 8A version works well.

Maypole 8A 12V Electronic Smart Car Battery Charger Fully Automatic 9 Stage Charging Cycle Lead Acid AGM Car Van Caravan Motorhome Tractor https://amzn.eu/d/fXjcU3h

Been using one of these last summer on the R230.

Unlike some will even charge a nearly completely flat battery.

I used to use a C-Tek MXS10 but mine succumbed to the failed mode switch issue that blights so many if them. Not got round to pulling it apart and finding a suitable replacement switch yet.

I’ll break the mould and say Noco Genius.
They do them in all sorts of sizes, not cheap, but, easy to use, reliable and well built. Steve from Avantgarde rates these these also.

I personally have the 10amp version as I find it’s a perfect balance between speed and power. I have the m6 eyelets on the w221 to make it more easy and versatile to use where space and clearance can be an issue with large crocodile clips.

Either this or Ctek and you won’t be disappointed.

I can recommend this one too.The first one. I never did find out if it also charged the starter battery whilst connected to the consumer battery though.

Did you turn the small black button of the switch a few times after the squirt of cleaner.
Done 2 or 3 over the years for m8's no problem.

+5 for the Maypole , that’s how many I’ve used/recommended . Especially if you don’t want to spend ctek money .
I’ve had mine 5 years on @LostKiwi recommendation
