The problem with " you only get what you pay for" is companies taking advantage of selling you rubbish under the guise of an expensive brand name..... It's a good marketing trick. How many products are just "badged" now and made by others? It's interesting to watch how manufacturers establish a market with a good quality product then slowly increase the profit by reducing the quality hopefully with no one noticing. There are lots of Victorian engineering still going strong simply because of its over-engineering, now everything seems to be more and more on the edge..

I remember a friend of mine quoting a job in scotland to replace a load of cheap chinese unreliable electrical gear with a proper branded make. When he started the job he opened the boxes of the high end branded stuff and ... it was the same stuff he was ripping out.. oops!

In terms of quality you only get what you pay for.
