I own a 2003 mercedes c220 CDI.Car has been really great until recently.Couple of weeks ago, while i was driving from sheffield to london,i got this warning message flashed on the screen'Battery/Alternator visit workshop'.Next day the message disappeared so i didnt take it seriously. After a week i got trouble starting my car in the morning(cold atart). After 4 or 5 attempts car started.I took the car to mercedes and battery got replaced.Couple of days ago,i got the same starting troule again in the morning.Do you know what the reason could be.Help would be appreciated

The 2150cc dci engine is known for injectors leaking off excessively (I've been told that 02-03 year is the worst). I've had 2 in 2 years - 1 gave me a hot start problem, the other a cold start problem. Total cost for leak off test, removal, overhaual and refit of 1 injector was £185+vat from a diesel fuel injection sppecialist. I didn't get any warning lights tho, just a non-starter.

The cdi systems on all merc's suffer with the same list of faults, things you can do, replace all the seals on fuel pipes you can check for leaks while doing it, if no luck with that you would need to have a short test done to see if there are any stored faults in the engine system also you could have your injectors tested to see how much fuel they are returning, you would need special equipment for this that only merc specialists would have, what area are you in.
