Trouble starting

I cleaned the engine of my 190E earlier today. I used a spray to get rid of all the muck and grime. Then I used water to wash everything away. An hour later I tried to start the engine but it wouldn't start. The engine was turning over and eventually it even started, but as soon as I took my foot of the accellerator the engine cut out again. Now, after several hours of trying to start, including jump starting, my battery seems to have become drained.

I believe I may have got water on some of the electrics. Can anyone help me to get this all in order.
