I just bought a 2007 SLK280. I only have one key. The key seems to be giving problems. It does not seem normal. I put the key in but when you turn it all the way it does not try to start. Sometimes letting it sit in the run position for a few seconds more helps. Sometimes I pull the key out and hit unlock then it works. I Might be pressing one of the buttons when I am turning the key. Not sure how to stop myself doing that.
Does it matter which way the key goes in - buttons towards you or not? Are you supposed to pause for for ~10 seconds before trying to start? Some other "trick"?

It should just turn and start. I’d contact RMK (Replacement Mercedes Keys) forum sponsor and get another key ASAP

Bit more tricky if you live in California though.
