It appears the mechanism in the trunk has broken. Key and trunk release button don't work, nor do pushing in the trunk button. Mechanic says the replacement trunk lock is on order but will take a week or two - I need to get into the trunk imminently to retreive important items. Can I drill out the lock to get the trunk open while I wait for the parts to arrive? If so, is there any specific procedure to follow?

Does the key turn at all?

I would try copious amounts of WD40 and lots of wiggling in the first instance, as the locks are renownd for sticking due to underuse since the advent of remotes.

As spike says spray plenty of w 40 into the barrel and grip the key with pliers to give you more purchase while trying to move the key to the open & lock position. Had this with a C180 would not work with remote until the boot went into the unlock position, just persevere and you will get it. Take care not to break the key.

boot lock

You could try going into the boot from the arm-rest aperture on the back seat. Flip it down, and try and operate the seat back release levers or catches. That might get you out a jam temporarily. You might be able to work the boot lock from inside as well.
Good luck
