For a w208, just wondering what options there are.

-ECU: DMS do it for £850+VAT. Takes it to 380bhp/375lbft.
-Supercharger: Birds £16k+VAT. 490bhp.

Any other options to these (preferably cheaper!)?

Buy a 911?

I can't quite get my head round buying a car with a honking great big V8 and then spending £16k "tuning" it. Surely it would be better to buy the right car in the first place?

I've had loads of modified cars and without exception they're a poorer compromise than the car they're based on

Spend the £16k on a Caterham and keep the CLK for cruising. It makes far more sense. For one thing you can do track days, hillclimbs and sprints in a Caterham and tow it there behind the CLK

Thanks for the reply...
A 911 doesn't meet my criteria for a car I want. You can't fit two suitcases in the boot nor carry three adult passenger for an hour or more in comfort. Plus when I've done a day of hard climbing, I want something comfortable to travel home in! Vis-a-vis, it is the right car. I guess I should stop mixing with the Pistonheads crowd!

As for modifying the performance of cars, I don't know what you were expecting from them when you modified them, but in my experience, the cars I've had have been as expected or far exceeded the reason for the modifications. In this case, I only want to increase the power, remove the limiter and then do a few of those top speed days... I am pretty impressed with the handling of the CLK, considering I thought it would be a wallowy hippo round corners.

As for Caterhams, if I wanted a two seater sports car for £16k, I'd buy a Griffith or Chimaera. As much as I appreciate how quick a Caterham is and how well it handles, they're not a thing of beauty (nor do they sound that good).

Ahhh, I see. Well, DMS sound like they do a fairly quick job as they do it in-situ. Which makes it all the more tempting... as for the supercharger, unless I win the lottery, I don't think I'd go ahead with it as you might see about £2k of that £16k come re-sale time.

I think the tuning thing comes from familiarity with your car, and you start to itch for a bit more...

I have plenty of customers with very focussed cars, who still feel the need for modifications.

I can recommend DMS, as my C32 goes like stink!! The tuning potential of the supercharged cars is greater than the normally aspirated, but DMS still put out some impressive performance gains with the 55 motor in your car.

Supercharger add-ons seem always to be on the expensive side, and you should be aware that unless you have compression ratios lowered, engine longevity may become an issue.
