Malcolm, the best way to get it tuned is by getting a live map. This where the car is put on a dyno and the operator alters parameters and measures the effect to build a custom map for your car optimising it through the entire range.

This is what the chaps at GAD do is it not?......and MSL?

Indeed they do Mic, but at a price. You can be looking at £500

GAD don't currently have a dyno still so not 100% sure how much they can tweek live? MSL certainly can though

There are a few rolling road places around Nuneaton & Hinckley that used to do this sort of thing for around the £250 mark...

The is a standard mapping that gives the 20hp and 20 nm, does not seem much out there to get more with a special tune. I might do some more with the exhaust one day. Thank you.:D

The fact that MB increased engine displacement by 500cc as well as boost to gain the ~70bhp for the 55K might be a bit telling.........

A 10% increase in capacity but a 22% increase in power suggests more than just displacement.

Oh for sure. What I was getting at was, they didn't just make it a CL50K ;) It could be that at that engine layout and displacement, the point of ever-diminishing returns had been met even with a turbocharger, hence the displacement increase as well as blower addition (and presumably different camshafts etc).

The 55k has 500bhp and 700NM, according to my handbook, so quite a bit more than a 70bhp gain. this is not scientific, but I think the whopping great supercharger has a lot to do with it, once that kicks in you are really motoring. Not a sudden kick in the back like a turbo, but a distant rumble from the engine compartment and a seamless wave of torque propelling you towards the horizon at warp speed, a bit like the USS Enterprise.

Indeed your car does have 500 and 700 :D:D

But the Koenigsegg has 1,500 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque! In comparison, the Bugatti has just 1,480 hp and can get from 0mph to 186mph in 10 seconds.

It was a reference to Malcolms post about driving the 273 version as opposed to the 113.
the 273 is 388hp and the 113 is 306hp so actually 80 difference.
So a 10% difference in power but a 80/306=26% increase in power (with no forced induction). Ergo there is something more than just a capacity increase.

m119 Max torque 451Nm @ 4000 rpm, 326bhp @ 5500 rpm.
m113 Max torque 460Nm @ 2750 rpm, 306hp @ 5600 rpm.
m272 Max torque 360Nm @ 2850 rpm 315hp @ 6500 rpm
m273 Max torque 530NM @ 2800 rpm 388hp @ 6000 rpm
m275 Max torque 830Nm @ 1900rpm 517hp @ 5000 rpm
m278 Max torque 700Nm @ 1800rpm 455hp @ 5250 rpm

I will do one for the AMGs soon.

That's why I always have a wry smile at the extra HP claims made by this company when there hasn't been a before and after dyno run. MSL for me every day of the week.

me too Roger, although it will be interesting to see if their claimed figures are close to actual when they finally get the dyno in, with the amount of work they do I think it could be close but do agree it's possibly not what is expected.

I'm no expert on this. But I have invested considerable sums of money in tuning my cars in the past. I've probably said this before as well but I have seen hundreds of dyno runs of various cars on various days. I've seen very few cars ever make the quoted figures. There are too many variables.

Ambient temp, quality of fuel additive package (base fuel is controlled in so much they have to conform to certain BS EN standards), how tightly strapped to the dyno, how accurate the dyno is, how good the dyno operator is, any underlying issues with the car etc etc.

What is key though is that you get a before and after printout on the same day on the same dyno.

Regardless then of what the actual peak figures are it will give you a good indication as to what the map has done.

Yes time of day will play a factor with the ambient temps. But the same day is better than a couple of months apart etc.

There are many ways a dyno operator can 'massage' the result. But most can spot this.

The other thing as well is to look for how the power is delivered. It needs to be a smooth curve. If it looks like a seismograph print out then it will be a horrible drive.
