Just bought my first Merc an SLK 230 - 2001 model, stunning car, but wondered if anyone knew any good tuners and modifiers for an SLK in the Midlands?

I do not want to change the look of the car, but I am spoilt as the other half has a Nissan 350Z, and the handling is out of this world. I know the SLK is not a true sports car, the SLK is everything i want (the 350 is too much of macho muscle car for me a lady driver) but i just feel it lacks something in the handling department.

Has anyone had their SLK uprated (would love the AMG, but out of my price league at the minute).

You're probably better off looking at benzworld.org (under the R170 forum. If you do a search you'll find hundreds of threads). The Yanks are fond of tuning their cars, partly because they don't get caned on the insurance (you'll need to check this because they might try and put a ridiculous loading on your premium). Slightly lower and firmer springs is what they usually go for (Eibach), which is quite a cheap mod. Can't do much about the steering though.

I agree that upgraded shocks and springs will be your best choice. I like the Koni adjustables because you can tune the shock to the spring. I got a set of H&R springs for my other car and love their performance now that I added the Konis. Before adding the Konis the H&R springs just overpowered the old shocks.
