I was diving down the rabbit hole of tuning for my 1998 Mercedes E320 petrol and I found out that there are obd2 tuners for Mercedes e320 I was wondering if I can only tune diesel cars or my petrol Mercedes.

Hello and welcome,

Your 1998 W210 won't have an OBDII port... "old skool" tuning is what you'll need if you're wanting more

Frankly I wouldn't bother. The difference will be small and in terms of hp/£ very poor value.

Typically a remap on a normally aspirated engine will only give 10% more power which to the average driver is barely noticeable.

What would you recommend I do for some extra power other than pod filter/straight pipe?

That will only make it as powerful as adding speed stripes down the side, or sticking an AMG badge on the back - save your money;)

On old cars, what I find works well is;

- test (smoke test) the intake system and all vacuum lines.
- test all vital gaskets such as manifold, inlet etc for leaks
- how healthy is the maf?
- plugs and coils - just change them for genuine items. Coils may not fail but, they won’t be at their best even at 60,000miles! You should notice a vast improvement with part throttle performance!
- get the fuel injectors ultrasonically cleaned.

All service items really in my book.

I also agree that a map on such a car is pointless. It even pains me to see people tuning new stuff….are their injectors, coils, filters and fluids fresh …. Absolutely not! The amount of performance that you can restore from a good of fashioned stage 0 service hardly anyone knows or has experienced.
