A minor matter (but always nice to acknowledge a forum tip which turns out to be successful):

I have tried the 'two-bucket' method for washing my car, recommended here(one bucket with shampoo, second with plain water, dunk mitt in plain water regularly to wash out the crud which otherwise is spread around the car, with undesirable results).

As predicted, bucket with plain water ends up with loads of gunge in the bottom pf the bucket, rather than being scraped across the bodywork.

As I say - not a major matter but (as the supermarket says) every little helps.

Speaking of car wash, did anyone catch the car wash comparisons on 5th. gear recently? they had an expert prepare three indentical cars with high grade polishing techniques - cost over a grand each! They then took them to a Commercial Car Wash, Pressure Washing, and finally Hand Wash.

They then got the expert to re-examine all the paintwork using a magnifying eyeglass etc. Gues what caused the least damage?------------------------------------------------------------------The CAR WASH! what a surprise - to me anyway. The most damaging was the pressure wash, so lesson learned? probably not:cool:

Many handbooks warn against the use of a high pressure washer on cars, they are nor built to withstand that high pressure onto the sides, fine for wheels with care

(Puts hand up) What is the difference between a Commercial Car Wash and a Hand Wash? Those Members stating "about £2" will be shot at dawn :D

Sometimes I have to take the car to the local grit wash as I have no choice, but I wouldn't touch it with a jet wash broom. I don't trust rotary car washes either. Not just from a paintwork point of view but the other damage they can do. I had an old Scooby with a button for retracting the aerial. I quickly found out that turning the radio off didn't lower the aerial!

OHHHHHHHHHHHH = you mean those big spinny nylon brushes that have bent and twisted aerials and bits of bodywork trim built into the bristles in them. The ones that beat your paintwork to death. Right.!

I think I'll stick to the local Hand Wash, and risk it, thank you.!

I never use the big spinny blue things either, I'm only saying what 5th. gear reported on - so sue them:p

5th Gear is not to be trusted - they burnt down the TG Cool Wall (allegedly, of course!) remember? Dark Forces at work?

Totally inferior programme - they don't even have a cool wall! if they did they probably wouldn't know what to put on it:rolleyes: Don't see TG wasting their time on useless things like ????? oh, car washes! Me personally, I'll wait to the snow melts on the car - job done:lol::lol:

Temptation with pressure washer is to get too close which causes the trouble.I think the main problem with the Fifth Gear test, though, was the soapy brush holding loads of crud and spreading it about.
