Hi all,

My partner on her way to work this morning has noticed two warning lights appear, one is the ABS and I’m guessing the other might be traction control. Also when she arrived at work when she pressed in the brake to operate the hand break, this did not work either.

Any idea on what this might be? The car came with 12 month warranty. But merc are quoting me £177 to just check what the problem is and plus any additional charges if the work is not covered in the warranty. They said no cost at all if it’s covered in the warranty. I’m going to read over my warranty tonight as it’s booked in for later this month before possibly committing to a expensive bill.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

The collision prevention assist can be dirty sensors at the front of the car - there's been an awful lot of salt used recently, the build up can block the sensors

What is your battery voltage like? >12.4v with engine off is what you need.

Can this be inspected and clean if so?

Not sure, I can check this tonight once I’m home from work.

Thanks for the advice.

Wash the car... ;)

Cheap multi-meter to check the battery voltage - best to do first thing in the morning to see how the battery has held up overnight. If you check after a drive then it will be a false reading as the alternator should have charged the battery

The above might not fix the issue, however you've at least discounted the basics - next option is a scan with a Mercedes Specific code reader - you can get one for similar costs to what MB will charge for a diagnostic
