I've been trying to get quotes for my SLK 300 v6 (2010) for a B Service and typically so far they've been around £450 not including cabin filter change. It's alot to start with but is this a typical price from an independent mercedes specialist? I'm a first time Mercedes owner so just trying to gauge the sort of prices I should be paying and that I'm not getting charged for items that should be included. I think I was initially taken back by the price and how much may need to be spent on it as it's over 10 years old.

If anyone can recommend any reasonable specialists in the Manchester area, even better. Thanks

Nothing to do with the age of the car, its do with what needs doing. Un addition older cars may have other faults that need fixing - which then costs more.

Seeing very old cars in the road is testament to good maintenance and care by the owner - which costs

83k miles. 6 Spark plugs were changed 2 years ago, along with oil and filter, air filters, cabin filter, gearbox oil and filter - that was at 57k miles. Does the gearbox oil being changed mean that it was serviced?Last year oil and filter were changed.

Strangely looking at the previous service the garage didn't record the mileage at that time, which was in April 2022 but 15k miles had been done in the previous 2 years

Yep ,if It says “gearbox oil change” then you can take that as a gearbox service .
Spark plugs are probably 4-5 years (or 50k miles ) .
Sounds like it’s all up to date , maybe just get an A service + brake fluid change .
MB do a “value service “ on cars over 7+ years old , which is basically an oil change and a few checks (you will lose Mobilio breakdown cover if you have it) . If you supply your own oil and filter they take even more money off .

Depends where you are, this garage has pricing on internet to use as a guide, guess London area would be more expensive.

The guy on 'High Peaks Autos' always seems to send his cars there.

We would be £270+vat without additional items (gearbox, plugs etc) but including brake fluid, and all the other checks/bits.

Just a bit confused as a message popped up on my dashboard about a month ago saying Service B would be due in 122 miles (coincidentally after I'd just brought it back from having a repair done). It's not popped up since - so just wondering if it's still OK to get an A service done or will that affect the service record settings?

You can choose to have whatever service you want , it’s your car . You can even not service it and change the dash setting to have it say you just serviced it .
I service both my own cars to my own schedule and just reset the service interval myself every time , regardless of what it says . I just keep my own paper records that list what I’ve changed and when .

Exactly. My MB indie always analyses the condition of brake fluid before changing it. When he says it needs changing, It gets done. Ditto anything else. Trust the indie more than the franchised dealer!

As Wighty I set my own servicing regime:
- oil and filter biannually but or no more than 5k miles
- engine air filter and cabin filter 20k miles
- spark plugs 8 years or 40k miles
- auto trans and filter every 5 years
- brake fluid every 3 years
brakes are done relative to wear
I don’t do many miles pa (on average 3k each car) nowadays and sticking to the manufacturers schedule for such a low mileage is both expensive and wasteful

Is there a list of things to be done for servicing. I have the usual list for service A and B eg Oil, filters etc, but what about things like the v belt, back axle oil change, power steering oil change etc?

£500 for a B service sounds like main dealer prices. (That's what I paid for a B service on my SL63 for a MB service a few months ago).

Probably a bit cheaper from an independent. (£300 -£400) Depends what they are doing, is it due brake fluid change ? If fluid is black, then"yes", if fluid is clear, then "no".. Also depends where you live. As a rule, I would take it somewhere I trust, rather than worrying about saving £100.

C class 220 diesel w204.202 automatic, reg Sep 13, 55000 miles. I bought it new and had it under a MB service contact for 5 years. It had all work done as per their schedule (well bar an autobox oil change which when I asked why it wasn’t on the record they said it would have been done and altered the record ). Since then I have serviced it myself. I always serviced my own cars until I bought this car (my father was a Ford mechanic for 30 years). The A and B service I am happy with but being of a certain age I am used to a list of service items (coolant, fan belt, gear box and diff oil change etc etc) and as I say am struggling with what additional items to do. I have entered my details into the serviceMercedes Benz.co.uk website and have a service sheet (B service this time) this only shows a usual B service with nothing extra required this year. It does not show an autobox oil change which I believe is due this year. I have also use the mymercedesservice.co.uk website and using my mileage it shows an autobox service plus loads of other items (air filter, fuel filter etc (£1500 worth of work)), however if I up the mileage it shows standard B service at £400 with no extras.

Have to go on a list of service items for each chassis (available via Wis), and calculate based on age/mileage/what it's had done

The above sites don't know what's on the dsb and so will just give you a snapshot (and it's often wrong.)
