Does the choice of tyre have much effect on the steering? Coming from a BMW 5 series touring (e39) to a W210, the steering is a little less precise but something i noticed (and I don't whether it is affected by tyre choice or is just the way they are) the steering seems to need the frequent slight corrections to keep on running straight on the motorway or other straight road.

Interested to hear your experiences.

cheers
Jeremy

I put Avons on my E240 estate, because Michelins weren't available, and the tyres were worn and I had a long trip to do the next day and it was going to be wet. The noise level is much higher, there is a whine caused by the tread pattern.
Moral- stay with the Michelins as fitted.

Put 4 Stunner on mine for £60 a rim + its made a big improvement over the Continentals that came off.

I discovered that Michelins made a whiring noise at around 20 MPH on my 98 E280, it was so bad I thought it was a wheel bearing. I liked the Goodyear Eagle F1's that I tried, the wet grip is superb.

Mine came new with Michelins but they were not good in the wet. Pirelli P6000 on it since they came off at 23k, much better and very predictable.
