Hi all,

I've just fitted a set of RH alloys to my wife's W210 200k estate, these have 235/40x18's fitted.
Can anyone suggest correct tyre pressures?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Whammer

Go with the figures inside the fuel filler lid. I tend to keep mine on the high side of the range.

The pressure stays the same irrespective of the tyre size

Id stick with MB's recomendations. They know the car and suspension.
How much do the figures you have differ and when you say manufacturer do you mean wheel or tyre?

44 seems very high to me, it must be a very hard ride

I've gone with 29 front and 32 rear at the moment, I was advised higher on the previous wheels and tyres (225/45x18). This proved to be incorrect, esp. on the rear which showed signs of centre wear.

Thats something like what I run on with 285-35-18 at the higher pressures the centers do wear

Just a wee update...been running the tyres at 29f 32r and one of the rear tyres had started to show cracking on the outer sidewall. I've had the tyre changed under warranty, suspected it was just a duffer but a comment was made at the time of repair that 32psi was "way too low" for a tyre of that size.
Having inspected the other tyres, there appears to be a very slight trace of cracking on the outer sidewalls. I've decided to up the pressures front and rear to 32f 34r, anything higher than that and the ride suffers. Admittedly I went for the "budget" tyre option when I bought the wheels, but you wouldn't expect tyre damage form a couple of PSI difference.

They were Fullruns, a budget Chinese manufactured tyre.

Cracking to me denotes ageing and ozone damage, I wonder how old were your new tyres???

Cheap tyres = false economy. They won't last and will need replacing twice as often. I run Michelin Pilots here and they last an age. I've also had balancing issues with cheap tyres in the past. Did you know that every single tyre comes from a handmade mold before being sent down the production line.

I trust Michelin and if you go to black circles they are reasonably priced too.
