I have a 91 300 sl and the standard wheels & tyres are 16". I have a 99 c200 which had 15" and went up to 17". I want to switch the wheels and tyres from each car to enhance the sl with 17" antera wheels.
Is this possible for the sl to take 17" ?

Yea you can put 17 or 18 on the SL no problem.

If you had got 17" as standard, they would have had a rolling circumference of 2049 (245/45 r17 as came with mine.)

If you got the 18" AMG option they would have been
  • 8.5J 18 = 245/40 ZR18 (recomended for front of SL) 2052
  • 9.5J 18 or 10J 18 = 275/35 ZR18 (recomended for back of SL) 2041
So the OEM are:
  • 16" 8J.... = 225/55 R16........................2054
  • 17" 8.25J = 245/45 R17.......................2049
  • 18" 8.5J. = 245/40 XR18......................2052
  • 18" 9.5J. = 275/35 XR18......................2041
  • 18" 10J ..= 275/35 XR18......................2041
All pretty close. I'd put the best match of above according to the J width of your wheels
The offset for the 17" 8.25J wheels should be 33mm

The 8.5J & 10J 18" ones will need an offset of 25mm

The 9.5J ones will need an offset of 23mm

PS THe offset will be refered to as ET no. when you are buying the wheels
