Hi All - a quick question.......just about to replace the front tyres on my 2001 W210 22cdi, usual issue, tyrers arent to bad but the inside edge has feathered off, passenger side replaced in August 07 - drivers side replaced in Jan 08, I do about 25,000 miles a year - mainley motorway, the tracking does need doing but its not massively out.

The rears are OK, they were replaced Oct 07 and they are wearing nice and even. So my question is - should the new tyres stay on the front - or should I put the new tyres on the back and put the "older" back ones on the front?? What are peoples thoughts?

Thanks

You may not get the choice in this, its recommended by tyre manufacturers that new tyres should be fitted to the rear, apparently some tyre places have been known to refuse to sell new tyres to people who wish to do the other thing.

And i personally would always fit new to the rear of a RWD car anyway.

There is only one fixed rule, and that applies to FWD and RWD the best tyres should always go onto the rear, for if the rear end breaks away, few can control the car. You will not find anything anywhere that says different

OK thanks Television / Juddian - I was going to put the new tyres on the back anyway, but I just thought I'd check to see what peoples opinions were on here!

Thanks guys
