tyres! - 235/60/r16

my 91 w140 500se needs new boots!

am i limited to the size currently on the original MB alloys? ( 235/60/r16) or can i look for a near match profile wise?

anyone have any budget suggestions???? I cant afford £100+ per tyre !

215/65X16 is close enough in diameter to the tyres you have now.
It will depend on the rim width though, 215 may be too narrow for the wheel, you need to post the wheel size, i.e., 7J, 7.5J or 8J etc.

I have been looking at these things Russ, and I have ordered my tyre 10 mm down from the 285 to 275 on 10" rims, as many other cars use this size on 10" rims one can change, as you say 215 x 65 is an alternative in this case

I used to have a better link for rim widths, I'm sure you have one Malcolm, but this is all I can find right now.
It does not show 16" in 215/65 or 235/60 but will give the OP an idea of what he should be looking for regarding the wheel rim width.

Thanks Malcolm, that one is good for standard MB fitments, if going outside that, then this is good as you just put in your tyre size & it gives you the required rim width. You need to scroll down to, An ideal rim-width calculator

Try Khumo

I replaced the tyres on my W140 (s320) a couple of weeks ago. I managed to get a set (4) of Khumo KH31's for only £308 fully fitted. It's early days yet but they are quiet and have good grip. In particular in cold temperatures the grip is much better than the Continentals that were on the car previously.
