Hi Folks
The rear tyres on my C180K Sport Ed. need changing. Any advice on what to buy? Michelin Pilot Sport or Continental Sport 3?
I had 4 news ones put on and they have lasted 25K miles - a lot of Motorway driving - 70%
The front ones still have tread on it!
I'm getting them both at the same price - £140 a piece 245/40/17

Thanks in advance
Cheers

The Michelin is a quieter tyre and more comfortable, the Conti is a tad better in some respects but not all including the 2 that I have mentioned

I am due to change mine..when new, had the Conti sport contact 2..second set(present) are michelin PS2..much better tyres..a lot quieter and more grip and confidence..milleage of car is 48.5k...so roughly 24k miles per set..which is not bad..
I am planning to get mine from camskills..worked out the cheapest and forum recommended as well..

I have Michelin Pilot Sports on at the moment, a change from the Primacy.

I must say they are quieter than the Primacy and they grip better in the wet. We will have to see how they wear. I used to get 25K from the Primacy, front and rears.

Hi,

I had Continental Sports on my C180K when I first got it and last year made the change to Michelin Pilot Sports.

Have to say I've been really impressed with the Michelins. They are alot quieter than the Conti's and have been great in all weathers.

I chose the Michelins as they are also reported to have a longer lifespan - so far they are lasting well, I've done about 8k miles on them so far - and they still look like new.

Got a set of Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme 225/55/16 supplied and fitted by Camskill. Very keen price (approx £80 ish). Excellent performance and no where near the noise I was told to expect.

I have continentals on my SLK and have gone through three pairs in 24k miles. I am not impressed with their longtivity.

I cant say that I am impressed with the Pirelli Roso's on my SL as far as the mileage is concerned

Michelin Pilot Sports for me, and the 2's not the originals, both still available.

I have just put them back on both my cars, superb tyre.

I recently replaced my rear conti 2,s with michelin PS,s, and am more than happy with them, the contis gave me 19K, but I am not overly hard on the tyres. I feel the Michelins are a better tyre fo my driving style, but to weather they will last longer than the Continentals, time will tell. I have got to make up my mind shortly about the fronts, they will need replacing soon.

On another point re tyres, if my car takes 245/35/18's, can I safely put a pair of 255/35/18's on the same rim, or is this stuppidity?

Nope because the rolling circumference will change. If you can fit a wider tyre to the same rim iot needs to be a lower profile. Otherwise the ESP will have a wobbley..................??

Thanks for that, I thought there would be an obvious reason why not to,
