Being a young chap far from Europe, the purchase of an exceptionally cheap Mercedes appeals greatly. I've had a good look at the car in question, which is in a lovely eggsh*ll
blue, and I have to say that it doesn't look too bad, despite its (frankly ludicrous) price.
The bodywork has occasional rust, but nothing structural or internal, and the engine starts first turn and sounds very smooth.
No money down just yet, as it has a flat and can't be driven, and the remaining wheels have given me cause for concern. One is smaller than the other three; its sister was in the boot, also flat, but the other three tyres (of which one is also shot) seem to be at least 4" larger in diameter. Quite apart from speedo readings.. won't this affect the wear on the differential?
I'm assuming this wheel situation is a temporary thing, and, in itself, it won't stop me buying the car. However, is there anything I should look out for when I do test-drive, that might suggest it is something to worry about? And, if and when the time comes, does anyone have a suggestion for good tyres to invest in that will survive doing about one mile in ten on dirt roads?
