Hi

I was just wondering if any of you could tell me how long tyres on a 99 E300 TD last, my tyres last me on average 40k but only wear on the inside :?.
My car also pulls to the left I have spoken to a local mechanic and he says my rod brushes are gone is he right?

Hi,

On my recently departed E200 (X reg), I was getting 25,000 out of the fronts and got 50,000 out of the rears.

As per all of my previous Mercs, they always wore out in the middle of the tread first, even though the tyre pressure's were always checked and were spot on.

Interestingly my track rod bushes were replaced under warranty...apparently all E's were having them replaced as they came in for service.

Cheers

E300 TDs are heavy on rear tyres due to the torque of the engine.
Pirelli P6000 on my car were well worn on the rear at 11k. Both were worn on the centre even though pressueres were spot on.
Fronts last much better as long as you don't turn the steering whilst stationary, if you do the weight of the engine plays havoc with the tyres.

I rotated front to rear as in the manual and achieved 30k all round before one tyre started to seperate.

Pirellis are soft tyres and I have now gone for Michelins.

The fronts do wear a band at the very inside due to the width of the tyre and power steering but have the steering geometry checked if you feel the wear is uneven.

I think I had Pirelli P6000 on my car when I got and only got 18k from the rear and 20k on the front but now I stick with Continental I get about 40k from the front and 45k from the rear. My local dealer say that the normally only last 12k and they also say that maxium mileage you can get from and E300TD is 250k i have done 150k on my V plate and only had a few electrical fault but it still runs like its brand new.

Is your dealers comment about only achieving 250K with 300TDs based on that is all the ones going through their service have done so far.

If this is all they achieve check what oil they use, most dealers use Castol Magnatec, not even diesel specific.

My local dealer has at least one with noticibly higher mileage than that going through it's doors.

Don't forget 300 turbos were only available from '97 so most cars wont have huge mileages yet.
