Old tyres which as above have been refitted a few times, might have been some solvent adhesive near them, looks like the plasticiser has begun to migrate out of the tyres

I had it happen on an already wobbly Sierra estate many years ago. Doing 80 in the "fast"lane trying to get to the hard shoulder certainly woke me up. I swear a bit of poo came out
Happened to me in my Land Rover in lane 3 of the M1 - tyre valve snapped off in the wheel so rapid deflation, followed by sidewall failure. With 95 section tyres that’s a lot of sidewall...
Managed to make it back to the side of the motorway without incident (thankfully)

In lane 3 of the M1... overtaking an artic and a Luton bodied transit... my 110 is ever so slightly modified in the engine department...;) it would (in Germany) sit at 90 if I was inclined to do so...

People seem to have this idea that Land Rovers are slow... I used to give a few people a fright passing them at 70 (ish ;)) on the motorway in the 101 (fitted with an overdrive and a few little tweaks).
Not sure the bar grip tyres were rated for those speeds....
