can anyone find out the oe recommended tyres for a 97 sl500. size is 225/55
r17. apparently there was an SIS?? about suitable makes after complaints about vibration/rough rides with some tyres. local dealer cant/doesnt want to find out. I`m still suffering after trying various makes and all sorts of cures!! I appreciate "modern" tyre specs may be different but I`d still like to know. What are all you other 129 drivers running ?- do not say eagle f1 or I`ll scream!!

I never had any problems with the michelin or Dunlop

the size for 17" should be 245/45/17 Do you use MB wheels

sorry malcolm, I must have been tyred and emotional ha ha when I wrote that. wheels are 16" currently have toyo proxes on front and eagle f1 ds3 on rear 225/55zr16. toyos are good and seem more "comfortable" than the goodyears which feel harsh and noisy (but great grip)

Yes the Toyo's are a softer compound and do give a better ride, the mileage is not quite as good, but for the price the are very good,

From what I have read in the Swedish press I would say compound, hence the faster wear rate. They only came 50% when it came to wet braking test and did not do too bad in the noise test, and the fuel economy that goes hand in hand with noise
