Hi
Bought one of those icarsoft i980 to see if I could find a fault code related to my coil light coming on with hard acceleration and also because I like my gadgets

the only fault it saw was U010087 "Communication with the engine control unit has a malfunction the message is missing"

This appears to be communication between gearbox footbrake and engine ??
yet the car drives without fault

I did notice that with only a small amount of time with the ignition on the next day the battery had no "Umph"

If I hadn't bought this tool I would have never known of the fault

Have you cleared the code and seen if it comes back?
Sometimes historic codes hang around but have no relevance to current operation.

Hi

Yes I did clear the code and it did come back
my odb II read P0600 which is very general I just wish I know what U010087 meant perhaps something is due to fall off in 10087 miles

A bit more info
Cleared the code and code P313731 displayed which will not erase
the message with this code is "The fault code is not found in database
Next day fault code U010087 is back (Oh I did miss it)
communication with engine control unit etc etc
All this info is in the heading of
Intelligent Servo Module (Drive Train Can bus )

That is part of the gear selector. I would get the code confirmed on STAR as the message definition sounds like its wrong, this is not that odd with the icarsoft i980

As you say , its got to be wrong as I have no faults and gear selection is perfect
Just my coil light annoyance

Both of my obd readers say I have a communication error PO600 but I had that from my school days because I couldn't be arsed to speak to people I didn't like

****** clever these diagnostic testers arn't they

Update

Bit the bullet today and took merc to have a Star diagnostic to prove my cheap icarsoft wrong

However the Star told me exactly the same as my cheap gadget code UO10087
the star told me that this was a historical problem and an information sign was on the screen as apposed to a fault this was cleared an I took it for a run
on return same code there no fault but code logged
perhaps this fault occurs only when gear changing and when stationary no fault evident ?

As mentioned earlier when I put my foot down the coil light comes on
while at the garage I could not get the light to come on at all
drove 20 miles home with no light Great ! presumed star had properly cleared all faults ?
Hitched the horse trailer on the back , wife driving I said have you noticed no coil light she said "what's that coiled yellow light on the cluster" .not so Great !

Any comments would be greatly appreciated
and yes ,perhaps my wife shouldn't drive it

I have exactly the same fault codes on my R350CDI, along with the engine fault light (the car runs fine). Did you ever get to the bottom of it?
