Thanks for reading. I appreciate any help you could offer. We have a european 1987 (built late 1986) 190d with 2.0L that we are attempting to repair the air conditioning in. I have the european air conditioning with a sliding temperature control and sliding fan speed switch (NOT the pushbutton tempmatic from the USA).

I desperately need a wiring diagram for this climate control system as someone has spliced and disconnected wiring to the sliding temp control switch and we're trying to repair it.

It would also be very helpful if someone could tell us how the air conditioning compressor/ac operation is turned on and off. We have wired the new sliding switch, but the AC compressor cycles constantly in all positions of the sliding temp control.... We don't know if the sliding temp switch has been wired wrong or if there is another switch to power the ac system on and off.

For example, if you want to turn on your euro AC do you simply slide the sliding temp control to the right? Or is there another switch which must be engaged to turn on the sliding temperature control and turn on the AC operation?

Please post/email any info you might have that may help us. Thanks in advance- John

Sorry I can't dig up a wiring diagram for the AC but from what I can see the temperature slide switch turns the AC on or off.

Thanks for the reply! It has been a nightmare troubleshooting this ac mess. All 201's here in the states have a pushbutton climate control box, so the US haynes/chilton manuals are no help to the euro 190d owner. My shop manual on cd also lacks any info on the Euro ac system, and to make matters worse, some previous owner went in there splicing, disconnecting, and generally making a mess.

Knowing that it is simply a matter of adjusting the temp slide control helps alot, that means we're not overlooking some other switch.
Thanks again- John
