I always said that if i bought a BMW, i'd try to get an Alpina rather than an 'M' car.

So, i pose this one to you guys and gals?

AMG or A.N.Other??

Me, i think i'd be a Brabus man if i had the option.

However, AMG a very very close second - if not the same.

Whereas, with BMW it's a no brainer - Alpina every time!

Very true Malcolm. Gatsos and just general traffic, these types of cars look great but unless you're lucky to live where the rules are less rigerously enforced, and traffic is light, they're just too frustrating to drive.
I've never had a seriously quick car but I did have a decent GTI for a couple of years and found it annoying. It had the handling which translated into a bone jarring ride, and the performance which meant I could leave everyone in the dust.....until the next set of lights 100 yds down the road, and motorway journeys were spent mostly trying to hold it under 80.
I find my with my 'little' E270 over the last 50,000miles / 3 years there are probably no more than 4 occasions where I felt the need for more power.
The way I see it, if you have 10bhp more than the next guy, thats plenty. Add in a car that looks quick (any merc to the average punter) and scares them from trying in the first place and everything else just hinges on picking the right lane.

I like the principle, but I do it the other way round - have a car that doesn't look as if it could, and leave them for dead.

After all, is the policeman going to believe that a senior citizen would be going that fast?

BRABUS does the alpina trick for mercedes but mega money, Carlsson upgrades are somewhat tastey or just get a Kleeman supercharger fitted to your AMG and have fun either way

you dont need to go fast everywhere to have fun in a powerfull car, a 3am jaunt down a rainy road and round a few roundabouts makes it all worth it, personally i prefer mine to look near standard on the outside though (you usually have no chioce but to fit bigger wheels and lower suspension, but not everyone notices those things) My coupe shoudl end up with double its original bhp when the V8 goes into it, and in my experiance that usually makes a car much more fun. :D

Pushing reality of gatso's etc aside....

I think AMG do a fantastic job with styling. lets be honest first impressions are important to before you have driven it you are going to see it across the forecourt. AMG cars look very very nice my only issue is that they aren't in reality that exclusive. I see plenty everyday. Brabus however do an equally good job with the styling but i have only ever seen one in real life (outside of pics, shows ans showrooms. So on the road is what i mean by real life). But i thought i had suppressed the fettling bug a few years ago and it is beginning to nibble away again with my new car and i keep finding myself wombling through the Kleemann and sometimes Carlsson catalogues. But had i an SL it would definately be off to Brabus as i like the black one in their advert.

My point, i think, is that it depends on which model.
