hi,

my clk230 k (2000) has been booked in for a warranty repair.i took my car along to the local dealer, they took some photos and sent them of to headquaters, they contacted me 1 week later and said i can book my car in for repair, so far so good you all may think.my problem is, shoul i be entitled to a replacement car free of charge while my repair is being done?
after all they have admitted their negligence by offering me a warranty repair,
why should i be inconveinenced? can anyone help with their experiences

thanks

khan

Demand a courtesy car?

Hi khan

When I had my corrosion repaired (two occasions) I was given a 'courtesy car' by the repairer but it wasn't a Mercedes, it was a small town car, a Cleo Campus. I paid for the petrol but the use of the car was free.

I also had occasion to visit the MB dealership and all they offered was a lift to the nearest town for me to arrange alternative transport. I was not offered a courtesy car but neither did I ask.

I'm not sure that you can 'demand' a courtesy car - I assume you have another Mercedes in mind - but if you don't ask, you don't get. I suspect other members will report similar experiences to my own.

I have had my car in twice for corrosion repairs. First time I was given an A class and had to arrange my own insurance. Second time they had my car in for over two weeks and again had another A class, brand new this time, and they paid for the insurance as well.
I don't think there are any hard and fast rules on courtesy cars but do ask.

I would ask for a CL63 as your thinking of one as your next swap.... :)

Seriously though Yes I would have thought a car shoulb be provided, if its anything like our local garage where customers cannot park for unsold / demos etc taking up every bay I'm sure they would like you to take one off the front...

I didn't particularly have to ask (though maybe I just assumed and got one) for my 2 week stint. Got a 5 door A class, which my insurer allowed for free for the time. Only downside is that it put me off ever getting one - what a nasty bumpy little car it is!

It is listed in your owners manual that MB will provide a car for you in the event of repairs under the corrosion "warranty". I had a brand new VW Polo and it was awful.

I had a 1.25 Fiesta , brand new complete with rattly exhaust and loose therefore useless rear view mirror , had to arrange my own insurance as well

This time MB are collecting my car from my house and i'll use my Nissan

As I thought .... 'provide a car' ... they don't say that it will be another Mercedes.

My Cleo Campus was 'OK' but grossly underpowered compared with my Merc'. I had to use it for over a week the last time my car was in the bodyshop and I had to endure agony waiting for the return of the Merc'. It was an unpleasant experience driving this little car. I only paid for petrol as the Cleo was covered under the bodyshop's insurance. I thought that was a reasonable compromise. The dealer didn't offer me a courtesy car, if they had, it would probably have been another Mercedes.
