I am replacing the I situation on my 30 year old W124estate as it's very tatty. Anyone any suggestions as to how to remove residue from bonnet under surface. The majority of the material has gone granular and just leaves the base material and adhesive.
Thanks

Thanks, may give that a go.
I'm pretty sure that the chap who replaced mine didn't aim for a completely clean, back-to-the-paint finish. The remaining hard residue probably formed a good key for the new glue.

Reasonable?

I scraped the biggest lumps off with a plastic ice scraper and like rayhennig never aimed for a total back to paint finish. I did get it reasonably clean though, and the new insulation has stuck on sucessfully and has been there for almost a year now.

As above, used a plastic scraper to get 90% off. Used Trimfix to stick the new one on and all good.

Thanks for all your help. I cleaned off almost all of the old insulation using an old windscreen wiper blade and just need to do the final bits, before sticking on the new insulation. Happy

Job was completed last Friday. Managed to remove all old insulation and glue using multitool thin metal plate which did no damage to paint but removed all old stuff. New insulation from MB was excellent and so pleased with result.
