I've encountered another hurdle on way to replacing my engine mounts, the big metal undershield. I've removed the cover under the gearbox ok and several bolts from the front cover but the cover seems to be fixed somwhere behind the grill but nowher visable to me. Can't find anything in haynes manual or on web, any advice again would be super, Andy.

found bolts

They were bolts after all, two arms that go up behind radiator with bolts on end, difficult to see but felt way around, well mechanic friend did, so all off and mounts changed too, sounds like a differant car on start up.:D

If you've got a metal undershield like a sumpguard that goes under the whole engine they're quite rare. It was one of the many options available

Steel Sump guard

Andy,
The front is held by nuts/bolts in the front wheel arches. Remove the front wheels and you can see stays attached to the steel guard, which are bolted to the inside of the wheel arch. The nut are a locking type.
