I've changed all the brake pads on my mothers '99 W202 C200 estate.

On both the back wheels, the inboard pad was significantly less worn than the outboard pad.

Before replacing the pads, I swapped the inboard and outboard around and pumped the brake pedal in order to check that the calipers weren't stuck.

Assuming that such uneven wear is abnormal, what could cause it to occur on both sides?

I've had quite a few instances of uneven pad wear on different makes of car. That's even with correctly serviced calipers and pads fitted using white brake grease. I've never worried overmuch as I've been changing 'em. I don't know why it should be so, maybe someone else does?

The rear brakes use a sliding shoe single cylinder calliper, do lubricate the sliding part to min the uneven wear
