After only 21,000 miles the rear tyres on my C200 komp are badly worn from the outside edge. The dealer can offer no solution other than the wrong pressures. It is an auto with ESP and i don't thrash it. Any comments peops?
Normal wear on tyres (all things being equal) would be on the outside edge edge. This happens because the outside of the tyre is heavily loaded when cornering.
Advice used to be to turn the tyres round to even it out, but if they're directional, your buggered.
Outside edge wear could also be caused bt too much toe-in on the rear suspension, but if they lasted 21K, it can't be out by much.
If you can find a 4-wheel alignment place nearby and they appear competant, it's probably worth getting it checked.
Other than that, put the pressures up a bit.......
The normal & expected tyre wear on the rear of any vehicle. Is the middle of the tyre to be worn and the outer edges to be in good condition. The fronts are opposite to this. If you are experiencing tyre wear on the outer edges. Then a four wheel alignment should be carried out specifically looking for incorrect camber adjustment or track out. Either your local stealership or four wheel alignment specialist should be able to give you a read out showing you where the problem lies & mayvbe offer some sort or solution. Or you can visit us in the midlands and we will take a look. We have the same equipment as the dealers.
