Hi there.
For a while the revs on my 220TE (190k) have been doing odd things when I'm about to stop. Once I get down to about 2 or 3 mph the revs start to "bounce" between 400rpm and 1000rpm, causing the car to lurch a couple of times before I stop. Once stopped it ticks over fine, and prob not present at any other speeds. It does mean a smooth stop is not possible though which is a pain, and it seems to be getting worse.
Probably not related but when accelerating hard in 2nd up to 'bout 40mph, I ease off gas to force a change up and the revs occasionally stay high for quite a while before it changes up to 4th, missing 3rd altogether (even if I only ease off a small amount). I then need to kickdown to get 3rd, which totally destroys any aspirations of boyracer trafficlight drag races!!
Any suggestions very welcome
Thanks.

ric220,
Try cleaning your throttle valve as it gets gummed up with the muck which is sucked into the inlet from the cambox breather ;it causes uneven tickover and other symptoms as the butterfly valve sticks and the engine management system tries to compensate.
Also check throttle return spring and vaccum pipes are all in place and intact. Geo.

I think your gear box problem is non existant, its all to do with the slow response from the throtle, once you have cleaned it all and got the idle back to normal, the gear box will change as normal.

I think you should check your distributor and rotor arm for wear. Either that or OVP relay can cause erratic idle.
