E 220 d AMG Cabriolet
Hi I have a 2022 Merc E 220 d AMG Cabriolet that I bought from new I’ve already had to have 3 new wheels when it was only just over a year old because of cracks in the inside alloys. I now have another crack in one of the same wheels & a tyre that’s no good which is less than 2 months old. Yes I know there are a lot of pot holes but my previous C 220 d I had from new for 5yrs never had a problem with the wheels driving on the same roads! I also had water damage just before it was a year old & it was corroded under the front mats turns out there was a bung missing & water had been coming up. The whole of the electrical system had to be replaced. (Done under warranty) but originally tried to get away with it! I also had a friend same car with bung missing! I know some BMW’s have had the same problem. I complained but didn’t get any where. Also the doors swing back if I’m on a slight hill they don’t hold open they are very heavy doors & I have to hold my foot on door & tell passengers to do the same otherwise it swings back on your leg. I love the look of my care but am stressing now every time I drive it if I hit a pothole. I put a complaint to the council & didn’t get anywhere

Hello and welcome,

Don't straddle speed cushions with wide wheels as it puts enormous stress on the inside edge and cracks the alloy - happens to all manufacturers who fitted crazy diameter fashion wheels - if you can get 17" wheels to fit with tyres with large sidewalls your ride and happiness would possibly improve dramatically.

You don’t mention what size wheels the car is running on if they are 20” wheels you do need to be really careful regarding potholes and traffic calming obstacles on the road. As BC above you have the option to purchase another set of wheels either 19”, 18” or 17in depending on what’s currently fitted.
Water ingress is always a problem and very unfortunate that a seal was missing at manufacture or just dropped out pleased you got that sorted.
I run a coupe with larger doors and share your problem why manufacturers don’t build-in more opening positions is a mystery to me

I look like a formula one driver warming his tyres where I live.
Potholes everywhere and 19" rims. I'll be amazed if I don't have any cracks when it goes for MOT.

Hello & welcome.

I agree oversize wheels are a nightmare. I fitted smaller rims to both my SL and Land Rover, and am delighted with the improvement in ride & reduction in rim damage.
