I need to replace new front pads and disc on my C180K w203. I don't have the skill to change it myself. I know that Kwikfit (UK) supplies and fits UNIPART parts and the price is good. Does anyone recommend it? Should I do it without worries?

thanks

they will be fine. i also believe you get free replacements for the life of the car at Kwikfit?

I personally would buy the discs and pads from Merc (OEM pads are not much more than aftermarket ones) and get a local garage to fit them.

Any garage will be able to do a brake swap.

Make sure that the qwack fit bloke uses the appropriate tools and not his hammer to fit them.

Qwikfit = qwick cash

Personaly I would not let most of these guys fit a dust bin lid.

Some will tell tales of brake squeal with non MB parts, mine has some from ECP (~£100 for all four wheels and hand brake) they have 55,000 miles on them, still good (I hardly use them) but an occasional squeak when reversing.

I feel the same way as you and these parts, squeaking is not always down to the make, but often new pads on glazed disc

I would second what Wireman says, I used ECP for my C180 and never had a problem, I used to change all pads and discs every 50 -52000 miles regardless, never waited for the indicator light to come on

I will take it to kwikfit and hope for the best. Normally I would take it to Merc or a local garage for genuine Merc part like SilverSaloon recommended. Kwikfit seems to be a good deal moneywise and "money too tight to mention".
What does ECP means?

Thank you all for the valuable help!

How about GSF? Anyone tried them. I was quoted £140 for new discs and pads all around, which seems very good price

Like all of these firms, they only buy the ones that they can earn on the most, there is often very little difference in the MB price on some of these things. Saying that you never know, I was offered Zimmerman disc from my parts supplier, they turned out to be OE to MB and the same as I took off, the main thing was the saving of over £200 on the MB price

Paul you say that you de glazed the pads, when it should be the disc that should be de glazed

Malc, you know any parts supplier who can provide half decent disc and pads for my car or shall i try Merc. Also is there a website where i can check prices for MB parts?
As i said i am getting them all for around £130 for all 4 discs and pads, I think they are all Brembo which i think is good German brand. you think they will be ok to use?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Brembo are Italian, Amo. They are a major OEM to car manufacturer's such as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari etc - and the McClaren SLR - and many High Performance Bikes too

Kwikfit fitted UNIPART front pads and disc costed me £240. Almost £150 saved against Merc quote. Kwikfit says they will change pads for free for the lifetime of the vehicle. I drove 150 miles and no complains, so far.

Thank you all

£240 for just the front brakes? that's a little steep isnt it?

I am getting them done tomorrow, will let you know how it went. Got my service booked for Thursday and do not wish to give it in without doing brakes as MB would change them as required work.

Yes £240 is not cheap. But I couldn't find anywhere cheaper and faster. Mercedes quoted me £399. Local garage £320. How much are you getting yours done for?

Well I am getting all 4 done. So I have bought 4 discs and all new pads from Euro Car Parts for £176 including VAT. Now getting them fitted for about £100 so £276 for all 4 instead of just fronts.

Its always best to buy your own parts and pay labour seperate, Little extra hassle but alot cheaper
