Unusual airon behavior 230E W124

Greets,

When driving my 230E W124 1988 Mercedes with the aircon on after some driving the cold air cuts out and the aircon just acts like a fan. Only turning the vehicle off then on again will see a return of the cold air. The aircon on its coldest setting is cold but not really as cold as id expect thus i doubt it would be cold enough to effect any sensor (who knows). Im in Australia btw, it gets very hot here and very uncomfortable when the aircon cuts out. It has been recently gassed.

Perhaps someone could provide some insight into this issue? I have searched this forum which did not yield any results similar to this.

Maybe worth checking the following, relatively inexpensive fixes first:

Pollen/Cabin filtermaybe blocked.
Connection to the back of the aircon switchmaybe loose/faulty.
Relay which controls aircon maybe on the way out.

If all this is in order then specialist aircon engineer will need to check for leaks using a dye and test operation of compressor etc.
